MDA
Updated On: Aug 08, 2012

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the International Association of Fire Fighter's national charity. It has made firefighter's famous for their "Fill The Boot" campaigns from Hawaii to Maine, and this includes McKeesport. Every year firefighters take time out of their regular schedule to help "Jerry's Kids". More importantly, MDA just doesn't help kids, it helps everyone through they're research, clinic, and clinical trials.

Each year firefighters raise between $22 and $24 million dollars nationwide for this charity. Recently, in 2007 the McKeesport Firefighters raised $ 4,576.70. That is an 129% increase over the nearly $2,000 raised in 2006. All of the donations come from the public, and would not be possible with out the time and effort of our firefighters making the collection on the streets.

A special thanks goes to our firefighter Kevin Kovach, who is our MDA Coordinator. He spends many hours setting up events and attending meetings in preparation for each year's MDA drive.
